Selichot Services and Program

Saturday night, September 21, 8:30 pm

We gather at 8.30 for Havdallah and then “The Quarrel.” Based on a classic short story by Yiddish author Chaim Grade, this extraordinary film opens up the themes of these Days of Awe – and the presence/absence of God in our lives. Two one- time best friends, separated through the years of the Holocaust encounter each other by chance in Montreal soon after the war. One has affirmed even greater piety the other turned away from God. Despite their differences, they promise to spend the day together – but questions of faith and betrayal still stand in their way. This film is their story, followed by a discussion with Rabbi Sami Barth, and at 11.30, our traditional Selichot Service.
