Beth Jacob Congregation is a community that came together in 1985 to nurture a relationship with God and supportive connections to each other.

We are a Conservative Jewish Synagogue that values

Torah — study
Avodah — reverential service
Gemilut Chasadim — acts of loving kindness

Shabbat is the centerpiece of our community’s week. Davening on Shabbat morning brings together individuals with different understandings and knowledge of liturgy: its choreography, its meaning, its historical significance. The Kehillat Shabbat and Iyunim programs afford the opportunity for children to know the joys of Shabbat. Other activities through the year — our daily morning minyan, Talmud study, learning Hebrew, Friday dinners — build on and seek to enrich Shabbat and the holidays.

We understand that our responsibility for tikkun olam, repairing the world, does not end at the doors of our shul. Whether serving breakfast for the homeless at Dorothy Day or visiting the sick and homebound, our shul takes seriously the mitzvah of Chesed.

We are participatory.

Everyone has a responsibility to contribute their talents and energy to sustain and enrich our community. This can be done in many ways: teaching, supporting the Congregation facility, volunteering in the office, or assistance with congregational programs.

We are Inclusive.

Everyone has an equal opportunity to be part of the community. to be part of the community. Individuals and families of all ages and incomes are welcome. Financial hardship should never be a barrier to participation.

Beth Jacob counts among its members people of color, gay and straight, in-married and interfaith families. We are a community of joy and celebration, nurturance and support, affirmation and acceptance. We support family members who are not Jewish and provide spiritual support and guidance in times of mourning and of need. Our new cemetery, Children of Abraham, adjacent to our current cemetery, will serve as a eternal resting place for many of these families.
