Masks are optional, except in Section A of the sanctuary.
New Masking Policy for the Bima during Torah Service (3 month trial period beginning 8/8/2026) months:
Masking on the Bimah during the Torah service will now be optional for everyone. However, a Torah reader or a person having an aliyah can request that everyone be masked while they are on the bimah (with the exception of the 7th aliyah – see below) in which case masking is required for everyone on the bimah for the duration the person having the aliyah remains on the bimah.
This policy would now mean that masking will be optional for persons leading the services to take out the Torah or return the Torah, as well as for those opening the Ark, and also Hagbah (the person lifting the Torah) and Galilah (the person wrapping the Torah). Further, masking would always be optional for those coming up for the 7th aliyah and the Torah readers will know when signing up that they cannot request everyone to be masked for the 7th aliyah.
