Gesher

The Gesher (bridge) level of USY is USY’s, USCJ’s youth movement, program for middle school teens and pre-teens. Gesher is a youth group that helps 7th and 8th graders move into their roles as members of the Jewish community after their b’nai mitzvah. Gesher programs include social action projects, holiday celebrations, cultural activities, games, sports, arts and crafts, and conventions. Events are once or twice a month at Beth Jacob or other locations.

BJUSY

Beth Jacob United Synagogue Youth (BJUSY) belongs to Emtza Region, the geographically largest USY region in North America. Emtza means middle and our region stretches from Denver to Wisconsin and from St. Louis north to Winnipeg, Manitoba. There are 17 chapters in Emtza Region with whom we have programs throughout the year. Teens in 9th through 12th grade may join BJUSY.

USY’s motto is “To learn, to teach, to do” and BJUSY offers opportunities for all of these. Regional events have a unique appeal; most USY activities are at the chapter.

Friend us on Facebook and join our BJUSY group or follow us on Instagram.

RSVP

A timely RSVP ensures that we have enough food, program materials, and even seats on a bus to convention. Some programs like a Lounge Night do not require an RSVP.

Membership

  • Gesher membership is $36 a year. Beth Jacob’s gift to b’nai mitzvah is a one-year membership.
  • BJUSY membership is $54 a year. Membership has its benefits: you save money on BJUSY programs and you can attend regional conventions.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for USY dues and programming. Scholarships are available on an ongoing, as needed basis. Please apply here. For any questions reach out to our Youth Director Ethan Fine at youth@beth-jacob.org
